I was fortunate to interview Simmons once at Yankee Stadium. He was gracious, interesting and forthcoming. I’ll never forget the moment.

I was able to interview him a few times in Atlanta and thought the same. As one of the better players on that Braves team he was a frequent post-game target for reporters and never really seemed annoyed about it.

This might sound silly in light of Simmons's relatively short career and 25 fWAR/37.1 bWAR, but is there a straight-faced argument that Simmons -- The Best Defender in Baseball History -- should be in the Hall of Fame when he's eligible? Would you vote for him?

I won’t have a vote but I don’t think it’s silly. It’s something I would definitely consider since I don’t think that tag of “best defender of all time” is hyperbolic. I don’t think 75% of writers who do have votes would find it convincing enough however.
