So much of prospecting is about projection, particularly physical protection. Isn't that exactly the kind of expert analysis a front office would want a scout for, specifically in the lowest and obscurest levels where there are data black holes?
You would think so. Especially when the data for young players can be as misleading as it is useful because of sample size/quality of competition noise or the fact that bodies are going to change so significantly.
I always wonder, do teams have some kind of internal flag to identify when a prospect's plate appearance is against "worthy" competition? If yes, how do you mark that flag in the low minors?
